CITY COUNCIL APPROVES PARKWAY AGREEMENT
Broomfield City Council members voted overwhelmingly Tuesday night in favor of a pact with the Northwest Parkway highway authority to promote extensions of the toll road initially about 23miles to the west to Colorado 128 and possibly later through Jefferson County to Interstate 70. The extension from U.S. 36 to I-70 has been opposed by Boulder County, the cities of Boulder and Golden, since it was first proposed in 1986. At a meeting on August 29 the Northwest Parkway Board voted to support a $603 million, 99-year lease of the toll road to a foreign-owned consortium. The group leasing the road, Brisa Auto-Estradas de Portugal, requested that Broomfield and the parkway authority agree to "actively pursue and use their best efforts" to achieve the extension of the toll road.
