FIRST TOWN CENTER PROPOSAL PANNED
Less than favorable is a gentle description of Town resident's reaction to the first Superior Town Center proposal that was unveiled on September 10, 2007. Many elements of the proposal were decried by citizens and Trustees alike. After many months of work sessions and community meetings, the plan as presented includes 2,378 residential units, nearly 300,000SF of retail, 450,000SF of commercial/office space, a 185-room hotel, an 18,000SF civic center and nearly 20-acres of community parks. Parcels included on the plan are on both sides of McCaslin Blvd. south of U.S. 36. Critics of the plan cited the multi-story senior housing overlooking a cemetery, a sea of row-houses, town-homes and single family homes, and noted the high cost and trade offs to the Town. For years, Superior leaders have been trying to attract development to these parcels and will work hard to see it done well before giving their final approval. Significant changes to the plan are a certainty, but it will take a good deal more consideration and public involvement.
