COUNTY BEGINS PROCESS TO ADOPT SUSTAINABILITY POLICIES
The Boulder County Planning Commission held a public hearing on March 21 to begin the formal consideration of goals and policies to be included in the new Sustainability Element of the Boulder County Comprehensive Plan. The process for adoption of the Sustainability Element includes public hearings before the Planning Commission and the Board of County Commissioners. The commissioners are scheduled to consider the element on April 10th and 18th with a third and final public hearing scheduled for May 16. Currently the draft element includes three policies: 1) a new transfer of development rights (TDR) program which includes the use of fractions of TDRs, or transferable development credits; 2) structure size limitations and 3) green building practices which may include mandatory and optional requirements. More information will be forthcoming as this new element of the Comp Plan has the potential to impact property rights in the unincorporated areas.
