MOBILE HOME PARK TO BE REDEVELOPED
Shady Acres Mobile Home Park will be redeveloped if its new owner gets city approvals. Baseline Commons, LLC wants to redevelop the property into a mixed use residential community. The approximately 8 acre property, located at 850 W. Baseline Road was purchased by Baseline Commons for $2.7 million. Redevelopment of Shady Acres has been a City Council goal for the past seven years.
GROWTH CAP GOING BACK TO VOTERS
Lafayette’s 200 unit cap on annual residential building permits will expire this year, including the provision that allows 50 additional permits each year for affordable housing. City leaders plan to put the cap on the fall ballot for an extension and may ask voters to alter the numbers a bit. One alternative is to limit permits to 400 every two years plus 100 for affordable housing. That gives some flexibility to adjust the numbers in response to market changes or opportunities. Other variations will be discussed as the council approaches ballot deadlines during the second half of summer. Voters are expected to easily reauthorize the cap this November.
CITY LEADERS LOOK TO WEAN OFF GROWTH FOR REVENUE
Lafayette leaders are pulling together to develop a 10-year plan that will wean the city off its reliance on growth for revenue and services. The so-called ’10-year sustainability plan’ is intended to help community leaders identify needed revenue to sustain a desirable lifestyle and quality of life for Lafayette residents. The planning effort will incorporate regional revenue forecasts, long term cost and revenue trends as well as risk analysis to formulate potential city actions. In April, the City Council showed support for the effort while not committing to specific actions.
