WAL-MART SET TO REPLACE BARBER’S POULTRY
At the end of a six hour hearing on March 27, Wal-Mart got the go ahead to build a Supercenter to replace Barber’s Poultry at 120th and Sheridan Boulevard. Relocation of the 60-year old Poultry operation will be aided by $10.5 million from Wal-Mart and nearly $5 million from the Broomfield urban renewal authority. City officials have been seeking a deal for several years as a way to support redevelopment in the 120th Avenue corridor.
BROOMFIELD ANNEXATION OF SUPERIOR JUST TALK
As Broomfield’s City Manager, Geroge Di Ciero said, “It is not impossible, but it is next to impossible.” Recent talk of Broomfield annexing Superior, sparked by six month Superior resident, Paul Everitt is just that, talk. Everitt posed the idea recently as a way for Superior residents to get increased public services and revenue in a community largely dependent on growth for its funding. While town officials showed no interest in the idea, the rock Creek Homeowner’s Association president indicated it was worthy of consideration. Even if the idea gained some interest it would be years before action could be organized. Remember it took more than a year for neighboring Louisville and Superior to agree on jointly funding library services.
