LIFEBRIDGE'S UNION PROJECT INCHING TOWARD ANNEXATIONM
LifeBridge Church, founded in Longmont in 1889, is seeking annexation of a 313 acre parcel west and south of Union Reservoir to construct its permanent campus. City Council appears to be warming up to the project and is likely to give LifeBridge the go-ahead this summer. The campus project was approved for development within Weld County late last year and since that time the church has been negotiating with the City of Longmont. In order to develop as planned, the project will require a number of variances from existing city code. LifeBridge is seeking vested rights for 40 years, height variances, use variances and creation of a special district to pay for amenities and some infrastructure components. The campus will include at least three cathedrals, a 150,000 square foot sports arena, more than 300 homes, civic space, retail and office space. A nearby 74-acre parcel west of LongView Estates is also being proposed for residential development by a number of church members. LifeBridge leaders plan to sell the existing church campus north of Colo. 66 and west of U.S. 287 to help pay for the Union campus development.
