ROADWORK COULD HOLD UP WAL-MART OPENING
Wal-Mart's 207,000squre foot SuperCenter under construction west of U.S. 287 and north of Baseline Road is scheduled to open August 8. Recently, the Lafayette city council has voiced concern over traffic and roadway improvement that were part of the development approval conditions have not been completed. Specifically, the construction of a new turn land off Baseline Road to Aspen Ridge Road has not been constructed and is causing concern over significant potential traffic flow and congestion problems. Some members of City council want to hold up issuing a Certificate of Occupancy (CO) to Wal-Mart until the turn lane is completed. COs are outside the jurisdiction of the Council and are issued by planning staff. Whether the council's concerns affect the decision of staff remains to be seen.
