TRANSIT VILLAGE PLAN PANNED BY PLANNING BOARD
City planners got a earful on January 17 when they presented a 63 page memorandum and update on the Transit Village Area Plan (TVAP) to the City Planning Board. Prior to the meeting a number of communications from potentially affected property owners, private planners and Planning Board members signaled discontent. Elements of the plan suggested narrowing roadways, ROW connectivity features that cut through privately owned property, appeared to not respond to volumes of property owner comments and concerns, and relied on the results of a November ‘summit’ with the California based Congress for New Urbanism to support many of the recommendations. Prior to the Planning Board meeting the TVAP was scheduled for final action/adoption by City Council in early May 2007. That schedule is unlikely to hold giving the significant revisions that now appear almost certain.
