WELD TOWNS CONSIDER JOINING DRCOG
Officials in Frederick, Firestone and Dacono are considering joining the Denver Regional Council of Governments (DRCOG), a move that would tie the Weld County towns more closely to metro Denver than neighboring communities of Greeley, Loveland, and Fort Collins. DRCOG is the Denver area’s Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) and it provides regional planning services, including adoption of transportation plans required for communities to receive state and federal transportation funding. Southwest Weld’s growth and proximity have already tied it closer to the Denver region and it would make sense for this area to strengthen its relations with area governments. Some of the Towns’ officials are cautious about losing autonomy relative to their aggressive growth plans. The governing body of DRGOG is made up of elected officials from each of its member municipalities.
