ACCESS AT ISSUE FOR 2nd SAFEWAY/RETAIL SEES FALL OPENING

Safeway is interested in putting a second store in Erie at Colo. 7 and bonanza Drive but says they need better connectivity with the growing vista Ridge neighborhood. At issue is the potential extension of Bonanza Drive to Vista Parkway, cutting through a small parcel that buffers Erie Airpark residents from vista Ridge. Erie is desperate for retail and many view this as necessary to support the Town while nearby residents want their Airpark neighborhood protected. Meanwhile, developers of Vista ridge are constructing a 13-acre retail project at the NW corner of Colo. 7 and Mountain vista Blvd. Tenants will include a dry cleaner, juice bar, and drug store, among others. The Village at Vista Ridge will also provide two commercial office buildings totaling 17,800 square feet. Construction will begin this summer with a planned grand opening in late fall.
