HOME VALUATION AUDIT PROGRAM SUSPENDED
In December 2005, Broomfield Assessor, Vickie Brown, began an effort to audit the valuations of homes in the City that have not sold within the past four years. Ms Brown, in several newspaper announcements, suggested that her appraisers would go on to the properties and seek permission to do an interior inspection and that the appraisers would take outside measurements and photographs of the subject properties even if the owner was not at home. Numerous complaints were made to the Assessor’s office and with other city officials. BARA communicated concerns over the approach to the assessor and Broomfield Mayor Karen Stuart. The audit program, expected to take several years to complete, has been suspended and will be replaced with a homeowner questionnaire and drive by.
PLAN AMENDMENT ALLOWS FOR 1000 HOMES AT PALISADES PARK
On February 14, City Council approved a resolution allowing a change in zoning from mixed use commercial to mixed use for the proposed Palisades Park PUD. The property is located adjacent to the recently approved 2 million square foot Northlands retail development. Palisades Park is located north of Colo. 7, west of Huron Street. The zoning change will allow up to 71 percent residential development on the parcel, about 1000 units. The remaining area will support up to 1.5 million square feet of commercial development. Residential density allows up to 25 units per acre. The housing mix at Palisades Park could include brownstones, patio homes and condos. The original Northlands development proposal included Palisades Park residential development but that was split off when the retail project was reoriented. This approval brings the residential element back to the combined developments.
