LIFEBRIDGE GETS GO AHEAD TO SEEK ANNEXATION FOR MIXED-USE COMPLEX
On a 5 – 1 vote the Longmont City council agreed to allow LifeBridge/Puma to seek annexation of a 350-acre parcel north of Colo. 66 and west of U.S. 287. The Church based development partnership plans to construct a shopping center, movie theatre, convention center, hotel, offices, traditional single family homes and apartments on the site. The project could have a dramatic impact on the future of the city’s northern boundary. LifeBridge hope to use the profits from the development to support a 330-acre church campus on Colo. 119 near Union Reservoir. While a number of residents neat Colo. 66 expressed concern about the annexation and proposed development, the public process will include numerous public meetings, and formal review hearings, neighborhood discussions and design forums before the project gets approval to proceed. During the Longmont Comprehensive Plan Update in 2003, the City Council approved an expansion of the city’s planning are to include land north of Colo. 66 to the Larimer County Line, paving the way for future annexations such as the LifeBridge request.
