COLO. HWY 7 REALIGNMENT PLANNED BUT NOT FUNDED
Colo. 7, approaching Lafayette from I-25, is proposed to be rerouted along N. 119th St. or County Line Road to Arapahoe Road running along the northern and southern borders of Lafayette and Erie respectively, and intersecting at U. S. 287. The realignment is among the Denver Regional Council of Governments’ top 100 road priorities. The purpose is to route the increasingly busy highway away from residential neighborhoods in Lafayette to an area that will eventually develop commercial and retail structures. Currently there are no funds to begin work on the realignments so it is little more than a line on maps. When the realignment occurs a real opportunity will occur for some revenue sharing between the two municipalities and addressing the maintenance of the portion of Colo. 7 that will no longer be part of the state highway system. There also appears to be some real estate benefits for both Lafayette’s residential community and both municipalities’ commercial interests.
