BVSD WILL ASK FOR TAX INCREASE TO FUND COMPUTER RELACEMENTS
The Boulder Valley School District Board of Education is planning to ask voters to approved a $4.2 million per year transportation mill levy over-ride in November. If approved, the transportation funding will free up funds to replace aging computers in much of the district. The property tax increase on a $300,000 home would be approximately $25 per year. Under existing funding computer replacement(s) takes 17 years to complete, but with new funding that would be cut to four years. A formal vote to put the question on the ballot is scheduled for August 23.

SVVEA READY TO SUPPORT MILL LEVY OVER-RIDE
Teachers in the Saint Vrain Valley Education Association have agreed to support the school district’s proposed mill-levy override going to voters in November. Voters narrowly rejected a $15.47 million mill-levy override in November 2004. A final proposal is still being developed but is expected to be of similar size to the 2004 proposal. Items likely to be funded include increased teacher salaries, operational costs to open new schools, new textbooks, and decreasing student/teacher ratios. It is possible that two measures could be placed on the ballot. One that would become permanent to meet long term funding needs and another with a sunset to support short term and one time funding needs.
