MICHELLE KREZEK TAPPED TO HEAD CODE REVISION PROJECT
Former Boulder County planner, Michelle Krezek, has been rehired, this time as a Senior Planner, to spearhead a two-year project to overhaul the county land use code. Interestingly, Krezek’s last assignment as a county planner was to write the current land use code during her 1990-1992 employment. That code has been the center of controversy and citizen complaints since it was adopted. BARA Senior Vice President, Ken Hotard participated in the interview process that selected Krezek for the position. Krezek began her new job on May 23 and participated in kicking off the code revision process at a May 24 public hearing to get citizen input on proposed code changes. The public hearing, held from 7:00pm – 9:00pm in the Commissioner’s hearing room on the third floor of the County Court House at 14th and Pearl in Boulder, provided Krezek and the County Commissioners an opportunity to hear from citizens about their desired changes to the code and site planning review processes. One major thrust in this code revision will be to incorporate a broad range of so-called green building requirements. Functional objectives include review process streamlining, eliminating redundancy and confusion, and improving predictability during the approval processes. Other goals that will drive the process are increased clarity, fairness, usability, effectiveness, preservation of the County’s rural character, and environmental protection.
