TRUSTEES CONSIDER FIVE GROWTH ALTERNATIVES
When the Superior Town Trustees were faced with citizen complaints about proposed development this past winter, officials began reviewing the town’s Comprehensive Plan in January. Now, five alternative land use plans are under review and Town leaders are going to extraordinary measures to get citizen input. Numerous public meetings, open houses and hearings have been held in recent weeks to go over individual elements of the Superior comprehensive Plan. Now, town leaders have initiated a citizen survey to gather input on a variety of growth related issues. The contract for the survey was awarded in late June and will take five to six weeks to complete. Four future growth scenarios are being reviewed and each represents a variation from the Town’s existing plan. Alternative A provides for no additional residential growth; alternative B provides for half the maximum growth that would be considered: alternative C provides for two-thirds of the maximum growth that would be considered; and, alternative D is the maximum growth scenario. The fifth option is to stay with the growth levels outlined in the Comprehensive Plan. Town Trustees are expected to adopt revisions to the Plan sometime this fall. This process and its uncertainty has frustrated property owners and developers who had submitted development plans only to be stalled for more than six months with more delay ahead.
