Town of Superior
MORE GROWTH DISCUSSION AHEAD, BUT NO MORATORIUM
Town Trustees moved quickly to quell the calls for a moratorium on residential development at their December 14, 2004 meeting. Recently more than 600 Town residents signed a petition asking the Trustees to halt plans to develop 400-acres of land in and around Superior, including more than 300 new homes. Much of the dissent has been generate by a handful of disgruntled, but poorly informed, newcomers that demonstrate scant understanding of history and past planning decisions. Town Trustees are being clear that they will not support a moratorium but will hold meetings as early as January 10, 2005 to address the petitioners legitimate concerns. Equally clear, is that the Trustee will attempt to mitigate negative impacts of growth as part of the development review and approval processes and may even make minor changes to the Comprehensive Plan. Over the past several years landowners and developers have been patient and responsive to community interests. The Town updated its comprehensive plan during a grueling year-long plus process in 2002 and 2003 that involved all community interests, and then approved a plan that reflects citizen concerns and desires. Now, developers want to move ahead with projects that respect the Comprehensive Plan and accommodate community goals. They should be allowed to without undue new burdens or unreasonable delays.
