REZONING SEMI-RURAL NEIGHBORHOOD UNDER REVIEW
-Wilcox Estates is located north of 144th Avenue between Lowell Boulevard and Zuni Street and is one of only two semi-rural neighborhoods in Broomfield. Council is considering rezoning the area from agricultural to rural residential. The agricultural zoning was kept when the properties were annexed from Adams County in 2001. Rural residential zoning would allow residential lots of 2 to 10 acres. Council members also suggested that property along 144th be zoned to allow for light industrial development as a way to buffer the residential areas from traffic impacts, anticipating that Thornton and Westminster will construct an interchange at I-25 and 144th within a few years. Another potential is a rezoning of six-acres at the intersection of Lowell and 144th for a shopping plaza anchored by a Walgreens.
