City of Longmont

CITY MAY PARTNER IN UNION RESERVOIR PROJECT
The City of Longmont could become a partner in a development on the west side of Union Reservoir if it decides to join forces with a group of landowners who are in the planning stage for the project. The city owns 30-acres right in the middle of the proposed development. A consultant representing the owners asked council to consider a partnership at least for a public component of the project. One vision includes using the city-owned land for construction of a public pier/marina on the western banks of the reservoir. The consultant noted that the city would benefit from the plan to build up the elevation on the west side of the reservoir in order to put in a road or trails since the city has been proposing to do the same thing for its expansion of the reservoir. Council members Brown and Benker expressed concerns about wildlife habitat that could be affected both by the development and/or the reservoir expansion. The council directed staff to participate in project discussions with the developers although there was no formal commitment to participate in the project at this time. Several more public hearings are planned before final decisions regarding the cityˇ¦s participation.
