LONGMONT CONSIDERS ANNEXATON TO CONTROL GROWTH ON BORDER
Longmont Council Members agreed on March 8 to consider annexing land between County Line Road and Union Reservoir, and from Colo. 119 to Colo. 66 rather than encourage the property owners to seek development in unincorporated Weld County. The Council’s unanimous vote to consider the annexation, involving property owned by six families who hope to develop 1300 homes, demonstrates that the city is now more interested in working with landowners to control development on the eastern boundary. Having the 1300 homes in the city will insure that services neighborhood planning will meet Longmont standards. One year ago Longmont officials were planning to condemn and forcibly purchase the subject land to expand Union Reservoir and create more open space.
