U.S. 36/WADSWORTH BRIDGE/OVERPASS RECONSTRUCTION BEGINS
Work began on reconstruction of the U.S.36/Wadsworth overpass in early March 2005. The congested interchange was built in 1951 and currently handles around 70,000 vehicles per day. The interchange merges U.S. 36, Colo. 121, Colo. 128, and U. S. 287. Although the 50 year-old overpass has been ruled safe, the bridge will require major work and traffic will be narrowed to one lane at time during construction. The current $66.7 million project is the first phase of a two-part reconstruction project. Broomfield has received on a portion of needed federal funds for the City’s number one transportation improvement. It is expected that the entire reconstruction effort will not be completed for a couple of years, or more.
